Definetley get the bigger things as soon as you can afford it, or at least start looking to to see your options. Carseat is a big one, you don’t want to go used on that. Stroller, crib, bassinet, anything that’s going to suit your preferences. If you’re interested in baby wearing (there are a LOT of internet communties and information about baby wearing), you can do research on a sling you would like to get. Bouncer, walker, anything like that… you can generally find those used and in great shape on ebay (if you want to pay the insane S&H on them there lol) and craigslist, if you’re local craigslist is active. Maybe even purchase a ‘coming home’ outfit for your daughter, and after that.. i’d wait and see what you get at your baby shower, and pick up the things that you still need after that. Also… if you’re going to do a baby registery, now would be a great time to start looking at that too.
Edited to add: Might want to start thinking about what to put in your hospital bag too. Lots of sites have lists, but keep in mind you’ll only be in there a few days. A lot of pregnant women I know tend to over pack their hospital bags and not use half the stuff they brought.
There are also a lot of useless items out there, that you might think would be useful, but really aren’t. Diaper wipe warmers are normally useful for the first month or so, at least it was for me, then it was kinda pointless. Diaper genies are just a waste of money, in my opinon, and a changing table is just a waste of money too, especially if you don’t have the room for one.
