I really liked the Graco pack n play. I used it as a bassinet after my twins where born, and the play pen is used as a portable crib when we go anywhere. I liked the changing table because it was at a nice level.

if you’re okay with used ones, try ebay or craigslist.

Best Play Yard for very active 9 month old living in apartment?

by Gems: Best for 9 month old in ?
I have a tiny but very active & curious 9-month As part of easing her out of the “separation anxiety” phase, setting a daily schedule for her (nap and sleep time in her crib; playtime in another space) and having an area were she can play safely while I work on the comp or go about the daily chores, I want to get a play pen. BUT I want something that she can use at least until she is 2, that meets all safety standards and is of good quality, that is not too large (we live in a 700 sq. ft. apartment w/ limited closet space) and portable (not too heavy; folds easily) and that costs less than $ 150. ?
I work from home and NEED to be on the computer for a couple of hours here and there. The Idea is to have her in the same area with me, so I can supervise her and let her play somewhat freely and safely. I have friends who have been able to use their play pens until the age of 2, though by that age its used less. I asked for something portable because I will have to travel with her and could use the play pen as a substitute crib, hopefully until she is 2 years old or around there. Clearer now?

pack-n-plays are awesome.

The idea of a play area is good. It teaches boudaries early on and it keeps them safe without you having to watch.

might cry for a little bit when you first put her in there but don’t let it get to you. (easier said than done right?) If you take her out when she cries for you and it’s not meal time or nap time, youwill teach her that she can cry to get whatever she wants.

which playpen for my 6 months old baby?

by SunnyAM: which for my 6 old ?
hi, I intend to buy a playpen for my 6 months old baby who’s about to start crawling. I am not sure which model to go for, i.e. should i got for a travel bed/ playpen, a wooden one, one with a net ? what worked with your child & why?. Many thanks for your :)

nb: only friendly answers , the question is not a debate about whether playpens should be used or not. thanks

Personally, I would use a travel one for the simple reason that you don’t want to have to buy a wooden one then buy a travel one for family and friends homes.

Definetley get the bigger things as as you can afford it, or at least start looking to to see your options. Carseat is a big one, you don’t want to go used on that. Stroller, crib, , anything that’s going to suit your preferences. If you’re interested in baby wearing (there are a LOT of internet communties and information about baby wearing), you can do research on a sling you would like to get. Bouncer, walker, anything like that… you can generally find those used and in great shape on ebay (if you want to pay the insane S&H on them there lol) and craigslist, if you’re local craigslist is . Maybe even purchase a ‘coming home’ outfit for your daughter, and after that.. i’d wait and see what you get at your baby shower, and pick up the things that you still after that. Also… if you’re going to do a baby registery, now would be a great time to start looking at that too.

Edited to add: Might want to start thinking about what to put in your hospital bag too. Lots of sites have lists, but in mind you’ll only be in there a few days. A lot of pregnant women I know tend to over pack their hospital bags and not use half the stuff they brought. ;)

There are also a lot of useless items out there, that you might think would be useful, but really aren’t. Diaper wipe warmers are normally useful for the first or so, at least it was for me, then it was kinda pointless. Diaper genies are just a waste of money, in my opinon, and a table is just a waste of money too, especially if you don’t have the room for one.

Leaving for the beach in 3 days :) How do I keep my 13 month old happy?

by ♥Holly♥ Mama to Jaden and Rylee: for the in 3 days :) How do I keep my 13 old ?
In the carseat? I have the Graco My Ride 65, and she hates sitting in her carseat for long periods of time. We are only driving 1/2 way and then the rest of the day Friday morning. Any ideas? I can barely drive to church (which is 30 minutes) without her crying the whole way :(
We do have a portable DVD player (my son LOVED it when he was that age), but she doesn’t care too much for movies, but in a car, she might just watch it.

Thanks for the suggestions already :)

Answer by Tina has Twins
I would try to schedule part of the drive for a naptime. We visit family that is about 2 hours away and we try to drive it during our twins nap – works like a charm.

If you are going to be driving for longer that her nap, I would try to have someone sit in the back with her to sing, , etc . . .

luck!

Registering for baby soon – need advice?

by Balistar: for ?
I am going to be registering for my baby shower in the next and this is my first baby. Experienced parents – what items could you not live without out? What items were a waste of money and space? Was there an item you wish you had put on your registry that you didn’t and now regret?

Must have: wipes warmer, plain white short sleeve onesies, swaddling blankets (large), moses basket ( my son hated his !), pacifiers (unfortunately), Dr. Brown’s bottles- BPA free, lots of burp cloths, and a bouncer seat. Waste of time: infant seat, bumbo, and outfits that are not easy to get on and off in the 0-3 range. luck! Have fun!

Another must have…a really good car seat!

I’d like to say in regards to the wipes warmer that I haven’t had any trouble with my wipes drying out and its nice in the middle of the night to have a warm wipe so you don’t wake baby with a cold one =0) But this is more of a want than a need.

I need mommies advice help!!!!?

by Mommy!: I need !!!!?
okay i just posted a question about pack and sheets and this one woman said something about she hoped i was getting a crib also. Me and my husband move every 6 weeks! his job requires us to move alot. I could stay home but then the price that he pays for a hotel room for 6 weeks plus rent and all the other expenses of the house would mean we are spending more money than he is making so i always go with him and the pack and is great for me so we dont have to take the bed apart and put it back together. Its just going to tear up easily. So am i bad mommy for getting a pack and :(
he is a boiler maker and they have temp jobs that last for sometimes 3 weeks to 6 weeks and if were lucky we catch a year one the one he is on now is a year THANK GOD! because i dont want to switch doctors because the jobs are sometimes out of state! like we are from AR but we are doing a job in MO

I honestly don’t think when they are a newborn, it really matters where they sleep, so long as they are safe and their needs are tended to.

So for the first few , I don’t think that is a major problem.

I do suspect that eventually you will want to find another solution. And some babies outgrow that pretty quickly.

Need a suggestion for a good play yard/pack ‘n play for one-year old.?

by jessncsu: a for a /pack ‘n play for one-year ?
I have a Fisher-Price Rainforest play yard that was just recalled. My son is one (and tall for his age), and need to replace it. I would like to be able to use it if i have another child, so am considering another one with all the options like the , and . Also, if you have a suggestion for a non-typical one similar to the plapens that used to exist, i would like to hear about them. All we are needing it for now is somewhere to sleep when we travel, so a nicer mattress would be a plus.
